1. Hul is a Santhali word which means 'Fire of Revolution'.
2.This term was used during the Santhal revolt against Britishers in 1855 lead by four Santhal brothers.
3.It was a movement for liberation, initiated due to the following reasons:
a. Under British rule the functions and powers were taken from the tribal chiefs.
b.Changes in forest laws had a considerable effect on tribal lives.Forest were declared state's property by the Britishers.
c.Very less earning of silk growers since huge profits were taken by middleman and traders.
d.Miserable low wages of the tribes working in coal mines.
