In vitro fertilizations ( IVF)is the most common and most efficient type of assisted reproductive technology to help women born a baby. In normal pregnancy a male sperm penetrates a woman's egg and fertilises it inside the body after ovulation - when a matured egg has been released from the ovaries. Then the fertilised egg then attaches itself to the wall of the uterus and begins developing into a baby; this is called as natural conception.
However some women do not have the ability to give birth to babies and they have to undergo fertility treatment to help them reproduce. Babies born through this method are called " test tube babies ". The first test tube baby was Louise Brown in the year 1978. Robert G. Edwards, the physiologist who developed the treatment, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2010. In short IVF is a revolutionary treatment for those couples who cannot have a baby on their own and this baby is called a test tube baby.
