should we use past/past perfect tense with was

'Was' is used in simple past and past continuous tense. Instances with sentences on the same are:

Simple Past:

I was a doctor.

He loved me when I was a kid.

He was very intelligent back then.

Past Continuous:

I was walking when I met her.

She was cooking when the bell rang.

It was shining like a star.
