Similarities between squamous and ciliated columnar
Ciliated columnar epithelial cells have a rectangular shape with appoximately 200 to 300 hair-like projections called cilia. The mitochondria are present toward the apical region of the cell and the cell nuceli are present near the base and are often elongated. In squamous epithelium, the outermost layer consists of thin, flat cells. There are not many similarities between ciliated columnar epithelium and squamous epithelium except for the fact that both these types line the internal surfaces of the visceral organs such as the pulmonary system, kidneys, the capillaries.
