Section R             –            –
Section S           19             2

The total number of boys wearing spectacles is twice that of the girls. If there is a number of boys and girls wearing spectacles in section R, what is the total number boys and girls who wear spectacles in Section R?
  A. 14                                 B. 16                            C. 18                          D. 20

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

Let , Number of boys in section R  =  B  and Number of girls in section R  =  G

As given : Total number of boys wearing spectacles is twice that of the girls , So

16 + 12 + B + 19 =  2 ( 12 + 6 + G + 2 ) ,

47 + B = 2 ( 20 + G ) ,

47 + B = 40 + 2 G ,

B + 7 = 2 G  , We know we can have infinite number of solution if we have only one equation in two variables .

Here consider provided options . As we do not have any other information in given query :

Case I :  At G  = 7  ,

B  + 7 = 2 ( 7 ) ,

B  + 7 = 14 ,

B  = 7 , So

Total number boys and girls who wear spectacles in Section R = B + G  = 7 + 7 = 14                 ( option A )

Case II :  At G  = 8  ,

B  + 7 = 2 ( 8 ) ,

B  + 7 = 16 ,

B  = 9 , So

Total number boys and girls who wear spectacles in Section R = B + G  = 9 + 8 = 17                 ( Do not match any option )

Case III :  At G  = 9  ,

B  + 7 = 2 ( 9 ) ,

B  + 7 = 18 ,

B  = 11 , So

Total number boys and girls who wear spectacles in Section R = B + G  = 11 + 9 = 20                 ( option D )

Here we can have both option A and D as answer , If that is not your answer then kindly recheck your query and get back to us so that we could help you precisely .
