What is relative density? A solid wieght is 80 gm jn air, 64 gm water, calculate the relative density of solid when kept in water. State if the object would float or sink.

Relative density is defined as the ratio of the density of a sample to the density of a standard substance ( usually water for a liquid or solid, and air for a gas).
Or
The relative density of an object can also be defined as its weight in air divided by the difference of its weight in air and its weight when the object is submerged in water. That is,
 D=WaWa-Ww
On substituting the values in the above equation we get,
 D=8080-64D=8016D=5
So, as the relative density is greater than one (1) therefore the object will sink or collapse into the water.
