Solids normally are not compressible... Then how a sponge can compress easily...?

Dear student,
Although a sponge is solid but it may be compressed easily by application of force on it because sponge has numerous pores in it which contains air in them.so when sponge is compressed the air in the pores gets expelled out and the sponge gets compressed easily.

The sponge is compressible being a solid because of the presence of air cavities inside it. The sponge has numerous pores in it which can be referred to as air cavities, in which air is trapped and on compressing it comes out of the sponge. These pores are the reason why sponge can easily soak liquid into it.

Solid are normally not compressible but sponge is a solid and is compressible because it has air holes in it. when we compress sponge the air goes out and the sponge is compressed. when we leave the sponge the air again comes in and sponge gains it original position.
