Solve the following pair of linear equation by elimination method

  1. x / 3 - 2y = 4

x + y/3 = 7

The given equations are :     x3 - 2y = 4x - 6y3 = 4x - 6y = 12    .....1and       x + y3 = 73x + y3 = 73x + y = 21    ......2multiply 2 with 6 , we get18x + 6y = 126   ........3adding 1 and 3, we getx - 6y  + 18x + 6y = 12 + 12619x = 138x = 13819     putting the value of x in 1, we get13819 - 6y = 12-6y = 12 - 13819-6y = 228 - 13819- 6y = 9019y = - 1519so, x = 13819 and y = -1519 is the solution.

x/3 - 2y = 4

So, x - 6y =12 .........1

And x+y/3 = 7

So, 3x + y =21.........2

Multiplying th first equation by 3 and then subtracting both 2 from 1

3x-18y = 36

3x +y = 21

-19y = 15, y =-15/19
