Dear student,

Q.5 The magnitude of the gravitational force between earth and an object is given by the formula.
F=GMmr2
where G is the universal gravitational constant G=6.7 x 1011 Nm2 kg–2
mass of earth M= 6 x1024 kg
mass of object m= 1kg
r =radius of earth =6.4 x10m.
F=6.7×10-11×6×1024×1(6.4×106)2
F=9.8N
hence the magnitude of the gravitational force between earth and 1 kg object on its surface is 9.8N

Q.6. According to the universal law of gravitation and Newton's third law, we know that the force of attraction between two objects is the same but in the opposite direction. Thus the earth attracts the moon with the same force as the moon exerts on earth but in opposite directions.
And if you use gravitational law to calculate the force;
with the mass of earth = 6 x1024 kg
mass of moon= 7.3 x 1022 Kg
distance between them= 384,400,000 m
And G=6.7 x 1011 Nm2 kg–2
The gravitational force exerted by the earth on the moon is 2.01 x 1020 N. and this same force is acting by the moon on earth only in opposite direction.
