Displacement = 200 m

1.    A person walks along the side of square field, whose each side is 100 m long. What is the   maximum magnitude of displacement of the person in any time interval ?

2.  An athlete completes 2 rounds of circular track and returns to  the starting point. What is the distance covered by the athlete and his displacement ?

Dear student,
1) In case of the square track the maximum displacement of the person will be diagonal of the square.
Maximum Displacement = 102+102=102=141 m
2) During 2 round of circular motion

total distance = 2 x perimeter of circle 
Distance = 2 x 3.14 x 10 m = 62.8 m
Displacement = 0
