Let the length of the ribbon bought = x mLength of ribbon used at first = x5 mLength of the ribbon left = x - x5 = 4x5 mLength of the ribbon used = 18 × 4x5 = x10 mNow, length of the ribbon left = 4x5 - x10 = 8x - x10 = 7x10 mNow, according to question :    7x10 - 1510 = 2710⇒7x - 15 = 27⇒7x = 42⇒x = 6So, length of the ribbon bought = 6 m
