Q 12.
Answer the following questions in about 150 words each :

1.  Describe Otis family. What do you think of them ?
2.  Describe the role of twins in scaring the ghosts.

Dear student,

The answers are as follows:
  1. The Canterville Ghost" has a number of characters and each with their specific qualities. The Ghost is the protagonist of the story. Although, he is supposed to be a frightening scepter, we soon learn about his sorrow. The Otis twins and Washington Otis like their parents are nonchalant about the Ghost. Instead they take it upon themselves to plague the Ghost. Mr. And Mrs. Otis are the quintessential modern American, who accept the presence of the Ghost with incredulity. Miss Otis helps the Ghost achieve redemption. The Duke of Chesire is a minor character and the steadfast lover of Miss Otis. The Lord Canterville and Mrs Umney represent traditional notions about supernatural elements. Hence, all of the characters in the tale, play specific roles to bring about the culmination of the story.
  2. The Otis twins plagued the Ghost so much that the he was very much afraid of the two boys. The twins would throw pillows at his head and shoot him with their pea-shooters. They would also  shout "Boo" into the ears of the Ghost, when he was unaware of the twins presence. The twins had even put a jug of cold water on a door, so that when the Ghost opened the door, he would be drenched. The Ghost caught a terrible cold because of this incident! Finally, the twins with the help of their brother Washington Otis made a false scepter and frightened the Ghost out of his wits.
