Q. Destruction of outermost layer of adrenal cortex by disease such as tuberculoses will lead to decreased concentration on which of the following in blood ?

1) Ammonium ions
2) Sodium salts
3) Calcium salts
4) Potassium salts.

Dear student,
The correct answer is 2.
The outermost layer of the adrenal cortex is Zona Glomerulosa which produces aldosterone. Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid which acts on the DCT and collecting ducts of nephrons in kidney and helps in the reabsorption of sodium ions back to the blood. Thus, if the outermost layer of the adrenal cortex is destroyed by diseases like tuberculosis, it will lead to the decreased concentration of sodium salts in the blood.
