Q22. Tress grown in uniform enviornmental conditions, say as those occuring near the equator, throughout the year will

     (a) not show secondary growth

     (b) not reveal annual rings with distinct spring and autumn wood

     (c) have annual rings which can be used to date the tree

     (d) have only xylem formed by activity of cambium

Dear student,
The answer to the question is (b). Trees grown in uniform environmental conditions, like those of Tropical rain forest near the equator throughout the year will not reveal annual rings with distinct spring and autumn wood. This is because Tropical rain forest does not experience the extreme temperatures of summer and winter. For distinct annual ring formations, large climatic variations are required so that the activity of cambium can form these rings. Thus, Trees growing in same environmental conditions will not show any distinct rings.
