Short answer type Question
Q.12. What do you mean by neutral points for a bar magnet placed in the geomagnetic field? What will be the positions of neutral points for the bar magnet with its (i) north pole pointing north, (ii) north pole pointing south? Show them with the help of suitable diagrams.

Dear student
  • Neutral point is the point where the net magnetic field due to earth and the given magnet is equal to zero.
  • In the case of magnetic north of earth magnetic field points in the direction of north pole of the given magnet, two neutral points lie on either sides of the magnet along the equatorial line of the bar magnet.
  • In the case of magnetic north of earth magnetic field points in the direction of south pole of the given magnet, two neutral points lie on either sides of the magnet along the axial line of the bar magnet.
