state reasons for the following:
1. aluminium oxide is called an amphoteric oxide.
2. sodium and potassium metal are kept immersed under kerosene.
3. hydrogen gas is not evolved when most metals react with nitric acid.
4. ironic compounds have in general high melting points.
5. aluminium is highly reactive metal. even then it can be used for making utensils for cooking.

1.aluminium oxide  is called an amphoteric oxide because it can react with bases and acids or it has characteristics of both base and acid.
2.because both are highly reactive metals.
4.ionic compounds generally have high melting points because it is very difficult to breakdown the bond between the elements.

(3)when metal react with HNO3 metal do not produce H2 because metal is oxidized to metal ion, and NO3- ion is reduce to NO2 or other nitrogen species.

(5) Because, aluminium is good cinductor of heat.
