state the characteristics of a magnet. Name the poles of a magnet. How can to ascertain the polarity of a magnet? Can poles be isolated

Dear student
PROPERTIES OF MAGNET :-

1. Magnets attract objects of iron, cobalt and nickel.
2. The force of attraction of a magnet is greater at its poles than in the middle.
3. Like poles of two magnets repel each other.
4. Opposite poles of two magnets attracts each other.
5. If a bar magnet is suspended by a thread and if it is free to rotate, its South Pole will move towards the North Pole of the earth and vice versa.

There are 2 poles of a magnet-
1. South pole
2. North pole

A magnet always aligns along the north-south direction. Suspend the magnet with a light thread and let it stabilize along the north-south direction. The end that is pointing north is the north pole of the magnet. And the end that is pointing south is the south pole of the magnet.

No, the 2 poles can never be isolated. They always exists in pairs.
