State the chemical property in each of the following cases, on which the following uses of baking soda are based:
1. applied on an ant stung area
2. as a constituent of baking powder
3. in soda acid fire extinguisher

1. when an ant sting us it releases formic acid and baking soda is a base. When we rub baking soda over the stung area it neutralizes the acid and give us relief from pain and irritation .

2.Baking soda is mainly used in the preparation of baking powder . Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate(baking soda) and a mild edible acid like tartaric acid or citric acid.

3. It is also used in fire extinguisher . Soda acid fire extinguisher contains sodium bicarbonate and sulphuric acid . These an be brought in contact with each other either by pressing a knob or by inverting the extinguisher.Carbon dioxide is liberated and it forces a steam of effervescing liquid on to the fire. As a result carbon dioxide surrounds the combustible substance and cuts off the supply of air .
