State the difference between meiocyte and gamete with respect to chromosome number.

A meiocyte is a type of cell that undergoes meiosis to form a gamete. When a diploid meiocyte undergoes meiosis, it divides into four haploid gametes. Thus, a gamete has half number of chromosomes to that of meiocyte i.e meiocyte is 2N (diploid) while as gamate is 1N (haploid).
