Dear student,
Work is a scalar quantity.

We know work has only magnitude and dint have any direction. and mathematically it can be expressed as the dot product or scalar product of Force and Displacement.
$W=\stackrel{\rightharpoonup }{F}.\stackrel{\rightharpoonup }{S} =FS\cos \theta$
And we know that , dot product is always a scalar quantity and hence, work is a scalar quantity
