State which of the following situations are possible and give an example for each of the following :
a) an object with constant accelaration but velocity is zero.
b) an object moving in a certain direction with an accelaration in the perpendicular direction

Dear Student,

(A) When we throw any object in a vertical upward direction, it reaches the maximum attainable height. At that maximum height, its velocity becomes 0, but it still has acceleration due to gravity (g) as it is within the gravitational field of Earth.

(B) In the case of circular motion, an object may move with a constant magnitude of speed (uniform) but it still has acceleration as the direction of velocity keeps changing. Thus, this change in direction of velocity results in acceleration.
