Story rattrap explore idea that human being possess innate tendency to redeem themselves from their dishonest ways given right motivation discuss

Dear Student,

In the story 'Rattrap', the peddler, who was a thief, when being sent away by the ironmaster, learning that he wasn't Captain Von Stable, was supported by Edla, who pleaded to her father to let the wanderer stay with them for the Christmas eve. The ironmaster agreed and then, Edla served the peddler food and also gave him Christmas gifts, which included the ironmaster's suit the peddler was wearing. She also assured him of being welcomed, if he ever came back. These acts of kindness had caused a shift in the peddler's heart, who regretted stealing Crofter's money now.
The next morning, when Edla and her father learned that the peddler was a thief, Edla felt dejected. But to their surprise, the peddler had left their house without taking anything. On the other hand, he had left a Christmas present for Edla, which was a rattrap, a letter addressed to her, thanking her for her kindness and asking her to return the Crofter's money back.
He signed the letter as Captain Von Stable and declared he has been raised to that, upon escaping the rattrap he had been caught in for several years. That's how simple acts of kindness can leave an ever lasting mark on a person's heart, driving him from the shackles of misery to lead a better and fulfilling life.
