Structure and shape of CCl4,CHCl3.

In the carbon tetrachloride, CCl4 molecule, four chlorine atoms are positioned symmetrically as corners in a tetrahedral configuration joined to a central carbon atom (sp3 hybridized) by single covalent bonds. The angle between bonds is 109.5 degrees. The structure of CCl4 is tetrahedral in shape.

 

Similarly, n the chloroform, CHCl3  molecule, 3 chlorine and 1 hydrogen atoms are positioned symmetrically as corners in a tetrahedral configuration joined to a central carbon atom (sp3 hybridized) by single covalent bonds. The angle between bonds is 109.5 degrees. The structure of CHCl3 is tetrahedral in shape.

Both of them will be tetrahedral in shape. Carbon will occupy the central position and the fellow atoms will be in tetrahedral shape.
