Summary of the chapter "RAMAPURAM TIGER BY KENNETH ANDERSON

Dear student
Ramapuram tiger is the story of a ferocious tiger and the work it took in to kill him. There was a tiger living near the northern district of Coimbatore. In only 3 months he had savagely killed atleast half a district but the news of him first travelled when he killed a cattle lifter ( somene who raided cows from planters) and bunch of cattle with him. That was when a planter thought of buying a gin trap to capture that beast, he just had to wait for the right moment which came in soon. There was news that the tiger had killed a cow and hid it in the ravine. The planter saw it as an oppotunity to set up the gin trap there as to when the tiger would come to feed on its kill, it would be captured and as predicted, the tiger did get it's head caught in the gin trap but as it was a ferocious tiger, it was able to break himself loose. In the process of breaking free the tiger lost it's left ear and left eye. There was no word of it after that as everyone thought that it must have died of it's wounds but after approximately a fortnight, there were killings sighted again and rumours that how a tiger with a disfigured face was causing them. It was then, the author decided to pay a visit to the beast in person. After reaching there, he dicided to stay at Ramapuram village ensuring people that he had come there to kill the tiger. He looked for the tiger thoroughly, walked forests in his search but it was not until the night when a bull was kept as a bait that the tiger decided to show up. The tiger leaped upon the bull which collapsed in a second under the tiger's weight but the tiger actually wanted to reach out for the author on the other side. Seeing this the author shot his first bullet between the tiger's eyes, second behind it's left shoulder which killed the bull instead and when the tiger was about to pounce on him, he shot his last bullet. The last bullet was to the beast's throat which finally killed him. The villagers conveyed their thanks by providing the author with hot milk and some gifts.
Hope this help!
Regards

It was December 1997, and a man-eating tiger is on the prowl outside a remote village in Russia's Far East. The tiger isn't just killing people, it’s annihilating them, and a team of men and their dogs must hunt it on foot through the forest in the brutal cold. As the trackers sift through the gruesome remains of the victims, they discover that these attacks aren’t random: the tiger is apparently engaged in a vendetta. Injured, starving, and extremely dangerous, the tiger must be found before it strikes again.

As he re-creates these extraordinary events, John Vaillant gives us an unforgettable portrait of this spectacularly beautiful and mysterious region. We meet the native tribes who for centuries have worshipped and lived alongside tigers, even sharing their kills with them. We witness the arrival of Russian settlers in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, soldiers and hunters who greatly diminished the tiger populations. And we come to know their descendants, who, crushed by poverty, have turned to poaching and further upset the natural balance of the region.

This ancient, tenuous relationship between man and predator is at the very heart of this remarkable book. Throughout we encounter surprising theories of how humans and tigers may have evolved to coexist, how we may have developed as scavengers rather than hunters, and how early Homo sapiens may have fit seamlessly into the tiger’s ecosystem. Above all, we come to understand the endangered Siberian tiger, a highly intelligent super-predator that can grow to ten feet long, weigh more than six hundred pounds, and range daily over vast territories of forest and mountain.

Beautifully written and deeply informative, The Tiger circles around three main characters: Vladimir Markov, a poacher killed by the tiger; Yuri Trush, the lead tracker; and the tiger himself. It is an absolutely gripping tale of man and nature that leads inexorably to a final showdown in a clearing deep in the taiga.
