Take 10 ml of water in a beaker. Add few drops of concentrated sulphuric acid and shake and stir the beaker slowly. Is any change in temperature? Is this endothermic or exothermic. Repeat the activity using alkali and write the results?

Dear Student,

When Sulphuric acid is added to the water, the temperature in the beaker increases. The same phenomenon is observed when alkali like NaOH or KOH is added to water and stirred. These are the examples of exothermic reactions.
In exothermic recation the energy released during the bond formation or bond breaking is the form of heat, thus the temperture in the system/beaker is increased.

When H2SO4 is added in a beaker full of water, the temperature increases : exothermic reaction.
When alkali is added to water, it's H+ ion concentration reduces.
