MITOSIS

MEIOSIS

Meiosis is a specialised kind of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes by half (thus, called reductional division) resulting in production of haploid daughter cells (gametes).
Meiosis I starts after DNA has been replicated in S phase. Meiosis I is followed by meiosis II and in the end, four haploid cells are formed.

Meiosis I:
Meiosis I is divided into four phases:
  • Prophase I
  • Metaphase I
  • Anaphase I
  • Telophase I
Meiosis II:
This stage resembles mitosis. It is also further divided into four phases:
  • Prophase II
  • Metaphase II
  • Anaphase II
  • Telophase II
