Dear student

The narrator describes the scenery around his house. That particular year, the narrator lived on the outskirts of the town, on a street called Walnut Avenue. The country was the rural area behind his house. In the country, there were vineyards that grew grapes; and orchards that grew fruit trees like apple or pear. There were narrow gutters dug into the soil, known as irrigation ditches. These were used to water the fields. They also had rural, undeveloped "country" roads behind their house.
