The argument about the dogs reflected that both Lomov and Natalya loved their respective dogs very much.

Here is the answer:

In the play "The Proposal" Lomov proposes Natalya but they start arguing. They fight about whose dog is superior. Is it Squeezer, Natalya's dog or Guess Lomov's dog? Natalya says that her dog is better as it was a pedigree hunter and Guess is just an old and ugly dog. Lomov loved his dog and got angry when Natalya called his dog old and ugly. 

This shows that both loved their dogs very much.
