The C.P of two watches taken together is Rs 840. If by selling one at a profit of 16% and the other at a loss of 12%, there is no gain or loss in the whole transaction then find the C.P of each watch.(PLZ answer soon exam is approaching)

Let the CP of first watch be Rs x.

CP of the second watch =

The first watch is sold at a profit of 16% and the second watch is sold at a loss of 12%.

∴SP of first watch

SP of second watch

According to the question, There is no gain or loss in the whole transaction.

Therefore, CP of first watch = x = Rs 360

CP of second watch = 840-x = 840-360 = Rs 480

Let C.P. of 1st Watch= X

Let C.P. of 2nd Watch=840-X

S.P. of 1st watch=100+P% /100 * C.P.

 =100+16 /100 * X

 =116/100 * X

  =29x/25

S.P. of 2nd watch=100-L% /100 * C.P.

  = 100-12/ 100 * (840-X)

 = 88/100 * (840-X)

 =22/25(840-X)

   A.T.Q.

  S.P. of the 2 watches= C.P. of the 2 watches

=>  (29x/25) + [22/25(840-x)] = 840

=>  29x/25+3696/5-22x/25 = 840

=>  29x/2-22x/25 = 840-3696/5

=>  7x/25= 504/5

=>  X= 504*25/5*7

=>  X= 12600/35

=>   X=360

So, C.P. of 1st watch= Rs 360

And, C.P. of 2nd watch= Rs 840-360

  = Rs 480
