The density of 85%sulphuric acid is 1.7g/cm3. What is the volume of the solution which contains 17g of sulphuric acid ?

The density does not play a role here. If the concentration of the solution is 85%,

-> 17/x  x  100 = 85

->17/85 x 100 = x

->0.2 x 100 = 20

Therefore, the volume of the solution is 20ml

Concentration of solution
Density of solution= 1.7g/cm3
Let volume of required solution be x
Mass of solute= 17g
Density= Mass/Volume
=> Mass= Volume*Density
.: Mass of solution=1.7x
Concentration= (Mass of solute/Mass of solvent)*100%
.: (17*100)/1.7x=85
=> x = 11.76ml

Volume of required solution is 11.76ml.

density of the solution = 1.7 gm/cm³ mass of solute = 17gm 85gm of Sulphuric acid is contained by 100 gm of solution = 100/85 gm 17 gm of Sulphuric acid is contained by solution= 100/85*17= 20 gm density =mass/volume volume =mass/density= 20/1.7=11.8 cm³. Hence volume of of the solution will be 11.8 cm³.
