the embryo is surrounded with fluid and the foetus's lungs are filled with fluid, and it cannot breathe. why does it not suffocate?

A foetus receives all the nutrients and oxygen through the placenta. Placenta forms a passage between the mother and foetus for the gaseous exchanges and also supplies nutrients to the foetus. Thus, the foetus does not suffocate in the uterus.
