The enthalpy of neutralization of acetic acid and sodium hydroxide is -55.4KJ. What is the enthalpy of ionisation of acetic acid?

Dear Student,

The computation is expressed below,

ionisation of acetic acid is,CH3COOH CH3COO- (aq) + H+(aq)H = +1.2 kJthe value represents that the heat of neutralization is less by 1.2 kJ so we get,H=-57.1kJ+1.2kJ = -55.9 kJ

55.4
You know enthalpy of neutralisation of strong acd and alkali is 57.1kj/equivalent....ok..
Then any of acid or alkali become weak..the enthalpy of ionisation occur so...u r answer is 57.1 minus 55.4
