The first trophic level in a food chain is always a green plant. Why?

Dear Student,

The first trophic level in a food chain is always a green plant because green plant are the producers they make their own food and which is consume by other trophic levels. Green plants have a special pigment called chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight, and converts it into chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis.

Dear student,
There is energy transfer in each trophic level in a food chain. Green plants use solar energy through chlorophyll and convert it into chemical energy using the process of photosynthesis. This energy is stored in form of carbohydrates. This energy is then transferred to the next trophic level. In this way, the first trophic level in a food chain is always a green plant.

Dear student,

The first trophic level in a food chain is always a green plant because a green plant can prepare it's own food. These plant in photosynthesis change light energy into chemical energy which is consumed by herbivores and omnivorous then omnivorous and herbivores are consumed by carnivores. This is how the transmission of energy takes place.

Hope this answer is helpful :)
