"The number of linkage groups is equal to that of the haploid chromosomes in species."
Explain this statement?

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:
A linearly arranged group of linked genes that are inherited together is called linkage group. Genes present on the same chromosome are said to constitute a same linkage group and each chromosome is thus known as linkage group. Since the homologous pair of chromosomes have similar alleles/genes (alleles for same trait) at same loci, so they are said to belong to a same linkage group. Hence, the number of linkage groups is said to be equal to the number of haploid chromosomes found in a species.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the linkage groups.
