the other day in the live session on the classification of matter slide there was a statement " In compounds the properties ofconstituent elements is not
retained" what does this mean ?

Dear student,
Compound show different properties from its constituents. It means the properties of constituent elements are not found as it is in the compound.
For example : Water is a compound.
Its constituent elements are Hydrogen and Oxygen.
Formation of Water : 2H2 + O2 ----> 2H2O
Hydrogen and oxygen both are gases but water (Compound) is liquid.
