The outer dimensions of a closed wooden box are 10cm by 8cm by 7cm. Thickness of the wood is 1cm. Find the total cost of wood required to make the box if 1cm3 of wood costs Rs.2

Outer length = 10cm

Outer breadth = 8cm

Outer height = 7cm

∴Outer volume of the box = 10 cm × 8 cm × 7 cm

             = 560 cm3

Thickness = 1 cm

∴Inner length = 10 cm - 1 cm = 9 cm

Inner breadth = 8 cm - 1 cm = 7 cm

Inner height = 7 cm - 1 cm = 6 cm

∴Inner volume of the box = 9 cm × 7 cm × 6 cm

               = 378 cm3

∴Volume of wood = 560 cm3 -378 cm3

   = 182 cm3

Cost of 1 cm3 wood = Rs. 2

∴Cost of wood required = Rs. 2 × 182 cm3

             = Rs. 364
