the parallel side of a trapezium are 20 cm and 10 cm and its non parallel side are equal each being 13 cm .find area of the trapezium

See The Parallel Sides Are 20cm And 10 cm.

So Longer Side Differs From the shorter side by 20-10 = 10 cm

Or 10/2 = 5 cm

Hence On Each Side THE LONGER SIDE HAS 5 cm Extra

It Will Act As Base

Hypoteneuse = Non Parallel Sides

Height ^2= 13^2-5^2

Height ^2 = 144

Height = 12cm

Now Area = 1/2*30*12 = 180 cm

 Another Method

Let Us Draw A Parallel Line

To One Of Non Parallel Sides

It Will divide the trapezium into a triangle and a parallelogram

Base The Triangle = 20-10 = 10 cm

Sides  = 13  cm And 13 cm

Semiperimeter = 18

Use heron"s formula = Square root (18*5*5*8) = 60 cm

Base Of Triangle = 10 cm

1/2*10*Height = 60

Height = 12 cm

Area = 1/2*30*12 = 180

 but remember first method works good when the non parallel sides  are equal

if they are unequal then use the second one only
