In the play 'The proposal' the protagonist Natalya, her father Chubukov , and their neighbour Lomov fight and argue over petty things.
They use mean words to each other and try to subdue each other, trying to prove who is wealthier. They are unable to put aside their ego and talk about more important things in life such as the proposal. While Natalya and Lomov do love each other they are unable to rise above their pettiness and they will be probably be arguing for the rest of their lives. This tells us to focus on more important aspects of life and be careful with our words as they have the power to ruin relationships.
