the reaction which a base reacts with an acid is called.
Dear student,
The reaction of an acid and a base is called a neutralization reaction. In this reaction, the acidity of an acid is neutralised by an alkali. At the same time, the alkalinity of the alkali is neutralised by the acid. A salt and water are the only products of neutralisation.
Acid + Base = Salt + Water
or
Acid + Alkali = Salt + Water
During the neutralization, the actual reaction that occurred is between one hydrogen ion H+ from the acid and one hydroxide ion, OH- from the alkali to form one molecule of water, H2O.
eg. NaOH + HCl = NaCl + H2O
