the resistance of a silver wire at 0 degree celsius is 1.25 ohm.upto wat temp. it must b heated so dat its resistance is doubled?(alpha silver=0.00375/degree celsius.will d temp. be same for all silver conductors of all shapes??

we know that

RT = R0 [1 + α (T − T0)]

which can be rearranged as

T = T0 + (1/α)[1 - (RT/R0)]

here we have assumed that the shape and configuration of the conducting wire remains constant.

now, we are given

R0 = 1.25 ohms

RT = 2R0 = 2.5 ohms

α =  0.00375 /C

T0 =  0 C

TT

thus,

T = 0 + (1/0.00375)[1 - (2.5/1.25)]

or

T = 266 C
