The Vedic period usually ranges from 1500 BC to 600 BC. The Vedic period is divided into early Vedic period and later Vedic period. The Rig Vedic period comes under early Vedic period which has been dated from 1500 BC to 1000 BC. The later Vedic period is from 1000 BC onwards up to 600 BC. The early Vedic period was called as Rig Vedic period because the prominent literature of the four Vedas, the Rig Veda was composed during this period. It is a collection of hymns that were chanted or recited in the praise of gods. Thus, the Rig Vedic period lasted from 1500 BC to 1000 BC.
