the size of F- ion is larget than that of F atom, while that of Na+ ion is smaller than that of Na atom. explain.

F- ion is formed by addition of an extra electron in the neutral F atom. Due to this extra electron, inter electronic repulsion within the atom gets increased which results in increase in atomic radius. Thus size of F- ion is greater than the size of F.

Na+ is formed by removal of an electron from the neutral  Na atom. Na atom has only 1 electron in its 3td shell , due to removal of one electron the number of shells gets decreased  This results in increased in effective nuclear charge and thus the radii gets decreased.

F atom has atomic number 9 , while F- atom has atomic number 10 because it has accepted one electron from any other atom and the number of electron increases which increases its atomic size.

whereas in na atom its atomic number is 11 , while na+ ion has 10 aomic number beacuse it has given its 1 electron to any other atom and hence one electron removed from its valaence shell and its atomic radii decreases.
