The rat-trapper always used to think that the world is a trap and we are all caught in it by our greeds and selfish nature. After meeting the crofter, he got greedy and stole his 3-ten kronors and left for the jungle. On his way he was afraid of being trapped in this world like trap. He went to the Iron mill and later was taken as an old regimental officer by the Ironmaster. Ironmaster's daughter, Edla was very caring and calm in nature. Despite of knowing that he was a rat-trapper, she requested his father to let him stay with them for the Christmas eve. She provided him homely comfort and these act of Edla transformed the heart of the peddler. He left a thanking letter and 3-ten Kronors and a rat-trap as a gift for her. This incident signifies that a little emotional caring can touch a persons soul and can change it to a good person. The rat-trapper realised his mistake and regretted by apologising by returning the stolen money. This happened just because of Edla's caring and loving nature.
