The sum of the ages of Madan and Mohan is 16 years. Four years ago, was three times as old as Mohan. Find their present ages.

   Let Mohan's and Madan's age be x and y respectively.
 
   According to question, 
     x+y=16       eq.1
Also, 3(x-4)=(y-4)
         3x-12=y-4
         3x-y=8    eq.2

Solving eq.1 and eq.2, we get, 
    x+3x+y-y=16+8
   4x=24
     x=24/4
     x=6
Putting the value of x in eq. y, we get, 
6+y=16
y=16-6
y=10

So, Mohan is 6 years old and Madan is 10 years old.
