The Sum of Two Numbers is 1660 and The HCF is 20. Find The Two Number Number.

if the HCF of two numbers are 20.

let the numbers are 20m and 20n.

the sum of two numbers = 20m+20n

where m and n are co primes.

if m =1 n = 82

the numbers are 20*1 and 20*82 i.e. 20 and 1640.

if m = 2 , n=81

the numbers are 20*2 and 20*81 i.e. 40 and 1620.

so we can find the numbers by substituting the different values of m and n.

which satisfy the eq (1).

hope this helps you.

cheers!!

Let the numbers be 20a and 20b because 20 is the HCF, so HCF is the highest common factor by which both the numbers can be divided..

Now, 20a + 20b = 1660 (Given in question)

a + b = 83

Now, look for co-primes numbers that make the sum 83..(Co-primes are the pair of prime numbers whose HCF is 1 like (3,5), (5,8), means you can not divide two numbers by One single number or having no common factor between them)...
You will have your answer...
