the sumary of the letter

Story "THE LETTER" is an emotionally strong story by famous indian author Dhumaketu( pen name of gauri shankar govedhandas) who usually wrote about common people and problems they counter in day to day life. in the story the author depicts the life of and old man who is in later stage of his life.his name is ali and he was a great shikari when young blood flowed through his viens and arteries but now after his only daughter married off to soldier in punjab regiment he is all alone her daughter have never ever bothered to send even a mere letter to her father which had made the old man realize the pain of sepration. he everyday on five used to getup early, book a corner for him at the post office and look for her daughters letter .his continous visits and queries irritated the employees of the post office and consequently in frustration they used to calll the old man a ma man.

despite off continous appearences in post office for about five years the old man never recieved the desired letter. Suddenly the old man stopped visiting the post office and 1 week went off . Unexpectedly after 1 week he came to post office and asked the master for the letter of her daughter mariam the post master then told him that they don't have her daughter's name registered so they do not have any idea on this the old man suggested the post master to register her daughter's name on which the postmaster got frustrated and rudely called the old man a pest. the old man on his way back found an employee of post office whom he tried to bribe and requested him that if letter of her daughter comes then he must put it on his grave.

after a month the daughter of the post master fell ill in an another town ,so he was waiting eagerly for her daughter's letter and in just one impatient night he understood the pain of ali the very next morning when he was waiting eagerly for his daughter's letter he saw a letter which was meant for ali, he was a bit moved and called a clerk to go to his home and give the letter to ali. the next morning when he sat on the table he found ali's letter on his bench and he decided to give ali's letter to ali himself at five o'clock at his natural time ali arrived and entered the room of postmaster the postmaster called him and handed him over the letter ali took the letter and felt overwhelmed his tears were out and he started moving towards the meadows in open and as soon as he reached near the door he disappeared.the clerk appeared in front of postmaster and asked him to whom was he talking when postmastertold that he was talking to ali the postmaster said that ali is dead he had died 1 month ago.the postmaster could not believe what happened as the letter laid in front of him aside the door.

the post master then decided to go to ali's grave with the clerk in order to give this
