Dear student,
During the British rule India experienced an export surplus. However, this surplus was generated on account of export of primary products. So, while the Indian industrial sector suffered the British industrial sector flourished. Moreover, the revenue form the surplus was used for administrative and war expenses of the colonial government. All this led to drain of wealth from India.
