The volume of a 500g sealed packet is350cm3. Will the packet float or sink in water if the density of water is 1g/cm3?what is the volume of water?

Given that:

Mass of packet=500 g=0.5 kg

Volume=350 cubic centimeter,

Density=Mass / Volume

It is clear that, density of the packet >density of water 

Hence, it will sink in water.

According to Archemedes principle,the buoyant force acting on the object is equal to the weight of the water displaced by it and we know that,weight=mass x acceleration due to gravity.

 i.e 0.5kg x 10m/s2=5N

Mass of displaced water=W/g=5/10=0.5 kg

Now you can calculate volume using formula,Volume=Mass /density
