The volume of a given mass of a gas at 0 dergree celcius is 2dm3. Calculate the new volume of the gas at constant pressure where

  1. the temperature is increased by 10 degree celcius.
  2. the temperature is decreased by 10 degree celcius

According to Charle's law , At constant pressure :

V1T1= V2T2

Given : V1 = 2 dm3
T1 = 00 C = 273.15 K
(i) T2 = 0 + 100 C = 283.15 K
Substituting the values :
V1T1= V2T22273.15= V2283.15V2 = 2.073 dm3
(ii) T2 = 0 -10 = -100 C = 263.15 K
Substituting the values :
V1T1= V2T22273.15= V2263.15V2 = 1.927 dm3
