The given statement is totally correct, because our present totally based on the doing of our past. What we have done or achieved in our past, our present is based on that. For example: A student of very rich family never study and always waste the time in doing nothing productive and student from very poor family works very hard and study and become IAS officer. So, student from poor family has earned his present position from the hard work which he has done in his past time. And another student has done nothing but only waste the time and money.
Also, when we understand our mistake and than rectify them than only we make ourself a better person. And accordingly we live our life by rectifying and by learning from those mistake which we have committed in our future.
So, its totally true that the way we live is influenced by our past.
